Abstract Frances Wood was a librarian at the Grand Rapids Public Library in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In late July 1939, and again in July 1942, she sent questionnaires to contemporary Michigan authors who had produced a work of 40 pages or more. With the questionnaire she sent a request for a photograph, and a letter in which she described her intention of using the information to compile a volume on Michigan authors. Abstract Francis (Frank) Kinne Glew was born in Muskegon, Michigan in 1895. He relocated to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1920 where he opened his own advertising firm a few years later. In his lifetime, Glew wrote thousands of essays and poems. Many of them were published in West Michigan newspapers. He died in Grand Rapids in 1966. Franklin Everett collection

Abstract

The Franklin Everett Collection contains four hand-written volumes, two of which are English tutorials which he used in “teaching Orthography and the Meaning of Words by Association” dated 1866. The other two volumes contain his original poetry, mostly undated except for one, “Father Abraham,” dated February 17, 1877. These volumes were donated by George C. Fitch, Everett's son-in-law, married to Franklina and Thirza's daughter, Cadette Everett.

Frederick Stuart Church (1842-1924) was an American artist who was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This is a devised collection that brings together original holdings and reference material. Most significant are the paintings, sketches, etchings, reproductions and photographs of work by Church that were recieved in March 1920 from the estate of the famous art collector and philanthropist Charles Lang Freer (1854-1919).
