Abstract

This is a devised collection containing various items and small accessions collected at the Grand Rapids Public Library and relating to the Grand Rapids Symphony. The collection does not contain the official records of the Symphony, but contains some informative documents from individuals directly associated with the Symphony, as well as other materials collected over the years by the Library. The collection includes programs, newsletters, histories, a scrapbook and a few photographs.

This devised generic collection contains miscellaneous items and small accessions collected at the Grand Rapids Public Library related to Opera Grand Rapids. Formed in 1966 as the Opera Association of West Michigan, performances have been held at the DeVos Hall in the Grand Center since 1979. This collection does not contain the official records of the Opera.

Abstract The Saint Cecilia Music Society was founded on September 7th, 1883 when one woman, Mrs. Ella M. Pierce, called for a meeting of musical women to the home of Mrs. Frank M. Davis. Starting out with only nine musical women, the society grew in numbers over the years. As a result, the women decided to purchase and construct their own building in 1892 to conduct their business. Abstract St. Cecilia Music Center (formerly known as St. Cecilia Society) is a non-profit organization that advances the appreciation of music in Grand Rapids, Michigan. St. Cecilia was formed in 1883 and is considered the 'mother of the arts' in Grand Rapids. This is a devised collection which brings together miscellaneous accessions and found items relating to the organization. The bulk of the collection consists of programs and yearbooks.
