Abstract

The Birdsall Funeral Home was operated by Ira Birdsall in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This collection contains seven volumes of burial records for deaths handled by the funeral home. The volumes date from 1912-1938. They contain such data as the name of the deceased, address, occupation, death date, age at death, cause of death, parents' names and birthplaces, funeral costs, and place of internment. The volumes are in chronological order.

It was the first bricklayers' union in the state and was involved in strikes in 1891 and 1893, over wages and and working hours. Camp Lee was a Civil War era encampment in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This collection contains one volume of original guard reports from 1863-1864. The records were kept by Captain Sheldon, who was stationed at the camp at that time. The Campau Centennial Celebration took place September 23-26, 1926 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the first permanent white settlement in Grand Rapids by Louis Campau. Festivities took place throughout the weekend and included pageants, exhibits and a parade.
