Abstract

The Grand Rapids Public Library ephemera collection includes miscellaneous items relating to Grand Rapids, Michigan history. Ephemera are items that were created for a specific, limited purpose and were intended to be discarded after use. This can include posters, tickets, programs, brochures, receipts and advertisements. The collection also includes calendars, almanacs, business cards, certificates, city and county guides, cookbooks, menus and school catalogs.

Abstract

This devised collection includes historical published travel literature for Michigan in general and for specific areas and cities in Michigan. The bulk of the material relates to tourism, but some basic transportation literature is also included. Books, maps and ephemera are the primary formats. Fragile and rare materials are found, as well as an occasional current publication. Commercial publications, as well as unpublished personal travel narratives, are included.

Abstract Harry Wesslund (July 22, 1912 - September 23, 1985) was an artist and designer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He worked in the display departments of Wurzburgs and Herpolsheimers before starting his own company, Custom Displays, Inc. Wesslund designed many displays and graphics for a number of local and regional companies.
