Abstract The Christian Meyer (Meijer) postcards is a small collection of 65 postcards, most of which were sent in 1912/1913 by Chris Meyer, along with his traveling companion Jurien Kuiper, back to the Meijer family in Leiden, Netherlands. The postcards document the immigration of these two young men to the United States and to Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Gordon Van Smith posts contains over 250 postcards of the Grand Rapids area. The postcards range in date from the early 1900s through the 1980s. Many local landmarks are represented, as well as street views, river scenes and bridge views.

Abstract Harry P. Symes (1918-1997) was the owner of an advertising firm and publisher of the Grand Rapids Visitor. This collection includes images that Symes appears to have collected, as well as images relating to his advertising work. The 88 glass negatives depict scenes of Grand Rapids, Michigan during the first two decades of the 20th century. The Meyer postcard collection contains 72 postcards belonging to Evelyn B. and Joseph Meyer. The Meyers resided in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The postcards were exchanged between the Meyers and their family and friends. The correspondence provides insight into a circle of acquaintances and into communications in the early 1900s. The postcards also provide access to early 20th century images and illustrations.
