James R. Bronkema papers
James R. Bronkema was an architect from Grand Rapids, Mich, primarily active in the 1940s and 1950s. The homes he designed and built were part of the mid-century modern design aesthetic. This collection contains photos of some of the homes he built as well as materials from his days as a navy pilot. Also included in this collection are press clippings related to the fiftieth anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge, a celebration which Bronkema chaired after moving to California.
James R. Hooper photograph collection
The James R. Hooper collection contains copy photographs collected by Hooper in the 1940s. The images document the history of Grand Rapids (Mich.), from as early as 1836 to about 1940. Hooper originally collected the photographs for use in a window display at the Michigan National Bank in the summer of 1944. He displayed photographs of old Grand Rapids and invited the public to bring additional photographs and to help identify the early views.
Jaroslaw de Zielinski papers
Jaroslaw de Zielinski was a Polish music teacher and conductor living in Grand Rapids, Michigan from 1871-1879. While living in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Zielinski helped pioneer music education and entertaintment during the early development stages of the city. While living in Grand Rapids, he befriended one of his pupils, Ms. Edith V. Rann, and corresponded with her extensively from 1871-1890 in regards to his philosophy of music, teaching music and personal matters.

The Van Malsen family emigrated from the Netherlands to Grand Rapids, Michigan around 1900. This collection includes photographs, diplomas, religious articles and photograph albums collected by Joan Van Malsen. The photographs are mainly of the Van Malsen, Bradford, Luttel and VanderWall families.
