This small collection of papers contains photographs and correspondence. It also contains material related to Alice Newport's education at the U.B.A. Hospital Training School for Nurses in Grand Rapids, Michigan, including a portrait of Ida May Barrett, one time superintendent of the school.

Biographical / Historical
Alice Estelle Newport was born on April 13, 1877, in Meriden, Connecticut to Edward and Ida (Stiles) Newport. She married Walter J Pullen on April 26, 1898 in Manhattan, New York. Alice attended the U.B.A. Hospital Training School for Nurses, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating in 1902. She divorced Pullen the same year and, eventually, married Dr. William Edgar Rowe on June 20, 1917 in Allegan, Michigan. William predeceased her in 1923. Alice died on May 18, 1947 in East Grand Rapids. She and William are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, in Grand Rapids.

Abstract
Alice Estelle Newport (1877-1947) was born in Meriden, Connecticut. She attended the U.B.A. Hospital Training School for Nurses, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating in 1902. In addition to personal photographs and correspondence, this small collection contains material related to Alice's education at the U.B.A. Hospital Training School for Nurses and would be of interest to anyone researching the nursing school or nursing at the turn of the 20th Century. Alice married Dr. William E. Rowe on June 20, 1917 in Allegan, Michigan. She died on May 18, 1947 in East Grand Rapids and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
