Abstract
The News Photographs collection contains negatives that document newsworthy people and events primarily in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but also in other Michigan communities from 1953 to 1969, with the bulk of the images dated from 1956 to 1962. A large number of portrait negatives depict such notables as Dwight Eisenhower and Nikita Khrushchev. Scenes include various Grand Rapids buildings, or events such as tornado damage from the late 1950s, or Mackinac Bridge press coverage. The source and true date of receipt of this collection is unknown, and the photographer and context for the images is also undocumented, which may present some copyright challenges in usage. Positive photographic prints made from the negatives are occasionally added to this collection.
