Scope and Contents
The collection contains various landscape scenes of the Grand Rapids and Grand Haven, Mich. area during the first years of the twentieth century. Some of the specific topics present are baseball teams, labor parades, John Ball Park, bicycle racing, people, Highland Park at Grand Haven, Grand Haven harbor and a few scenes of the Lake Michigan shoreline at Chicago, IL.

Biographical / Historical
Stephen Deming Stover, a native of Canada, was born in 1872. After moving to Grand Rapids, Mich., Stover worked as a printer being employed successively by Bookus Printing Co., Valley City Printing & Engraving Co., Cargill Brothers, and the James Bayne Co. He also worked for the American Boxboard Co. in an unknown capacity.
In 1898 Stover married Agnes Littlfieled and the two had five children. A member of St. Marks Episcopal Church, Stover died on 13 July 1936. Stover was also an amateur photographer and the negatives were the result of this avocation.

Abstract
Stephen Deming Stover was a printer and an amateur photographer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This collection contains 75 glass plate negatives for images from 1900 through 1906, taken by Stover. They depict various scenes from Grand Rapids and Grand Haven, Mich. and Chicago, IL., including churches, street scenes, people, social events and parades. Of note are the views of labor parades, baseball teams, bicycle racing, ice cutting on the Grand River, the Norton Indian mounds and Grand Haven harbor.
