General
The original Oak Grove School building was built in 1860 at the corner of Butterworth and Maynard Streets in Walker, Michigan. In 1922 a two room brick building replaced it on the opposite corner. Phyllis (Jenkins) Thwaites taught at the Oak Grove School in 1947. It is unclear when she began teaching there and when she stopped.
Thwaites's scrapbook contains school photographs of students taken in 1947, in addition to photographs of the Plaster Mill/Oak Grove Reunion the class held in June of 2007. Correspondence between a former student, Ronald Marckini, and Phyllis Thwaites features prominently in the scrapbook. Ron wrote a Life Story, a history of his childhood in the plaster mill houses and his genealogy, which is included.
