Scope and Contents
Business Correspondence - John Widdicomb (July 10, 1893 to December 25, 1897) consists of letters from customers with orders, letters pertaining to purchasing and transporting equipment, letters in regards to the purchasing of timber land, letters pertaining to purchasing of wood and lumber products, letters regarding the shipment of logs to the mill, and letters regarding the settlements of accounts. Most valuable for tracing the economic history of the Widdicomb Furniture Co. are the incoming and outgoing letters with Ashton and Grand Rapids mills of the Halladay Lumber Co., Fox Machine Company, Mahony, Harlan and Hollingsworth Company, Michigan Central Railroad Co., Grand Rapids and Indiana Railway Co., Mosely Folding Bath Tub Co., Belknap Wagon Company, Michigan Furniture Manufacturers Association, Connersville Furniture Co. of Indiana, and Foster Stevens and Co. In addition, there are letters from Robert M. Ferris and Mr. L. M. Bailey regarding freight charges, and letters regarding the purchase of Widdicomb Mantle Co. by the Massachusetts National Bank of Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
