This collection was created in 1999 to house the fragments and small accessions within the archives that relate to the furniture industry in Grand Rapids. Information on non-Grand Rapids furniture companies is not actively collected, though some national material can be found in Collection #335, Furniture Design Archival Collection, National Literature. The other complimentary collection with a national focus is the Furniture Design Book Collection, which is housed in its own room within the Grand Rapids History & Special Collections department.

May be indexed as several separate articles] American pattern : Grand Rapids, like many U.S. Towns, was built by eager young pioneers, the homesteaders whose sons today still carve our traditions. A section called “Middle Western Houses of the 19th Century” includes sketches believed to be by Ernest Walker, of the following houses: Philips House, owned by Mr. & Mrs. L.O. Duncan in 1943; Turner House doorway only; Robert W. Irwin House; Kirkpatrick House [stone Gothic]; L.T. Wilmarth House; Grand Rapids Art GalleryHudson Valley style house.
