Scope and Contents

1. Grand River Valley from the top of Reservoir Hill, Summer 1946. Bird’s eye view of small buildings (houses?) and factories behind along the river. 2. Location at South East corner of Fuller and Michigan, looking NE, Summer 1946. Hill top view, including a couple of service stations center left, and a large church top of the hill center right. 3. Two copies of an aerial of downtown, with verso ID “Picture special ed. Press 9/66”. Monroe meets Division just to the right of center at the bottom of this image looking North. Brewery on Michigan, Old City Hall and Old County Building still in place. Regent Theatre may be in demolition. Old Police Dept. building gone & new building in construction on Ottawa. 4. Dup. Of 3. 5. Aerial “2147” with the Grand River diagonally lower right and Michigan & I-96 crossing it new the bottom. The post office is in place, the City & County Buildings are standing, but so is City Hall. The Calder is not visible, which means this is May 1969 or earlier in 1969. 6. Aerial, downtown Grand Rapids, with I-96 highway in foreground, looking South, the Grand Rapids Press building just across the highway, and Vandenberg Center, with the Calder in place. 7. Aerial, downtown Grand Rapids, looking SE, with lots of highway on the West side of the Grand River. Factory building lower right foreground. Upper and lower bridges to the North of the Michigan St. bridge, plus two other bridges. 8. Two copies of aerial centered on Division going N & S, with a bit of the train yards in the lower left corner, and a bit of the Grand River in the upper left corner. 9. Dup. Of 8. Seven Aerials of Downtown or just south of center. 10. Neg. 2722. Civil Center lower left, McKay Tower center about ¼ above lower border of photo. Center right is Fulton St. Park with Park Church, the YMCA, Grand Rapids Public Library, etc. 11. View from West Side across the Grand River running horizontally. McKay Tower is tall white building center left. 12. View SW with McKay Tower center right. Old Post Office later Art Museum partially visible at lower right corner. 13. McKay Tower & Pantlind/Amway seen top center. Site of the Old City Hall at Lyon & Ottawa has been cleared near the lower right corner. Portion of Division St. in lower left corner running past the Old Post Office/Art Museum Building to Lyon. 14. Downtown SW of Monroe & centered vertically on Market St. Hayden Supply Co. and Fuller Supply Co. lower right. Bishop Furniture Co. (Ionia & Louis) near top right. Bottom of the Amway & the white McKay tower seen in the upper left corner. S.S. Kresge's sing on building near intersection of Monroe & Market near upper left corner. 15. Bishop Furniture Co. at Ionia & Louis at center of image, with Fulton St. the main diagonal street at right. 16. View centered on Monroe Ave. looking NW to the McKay Tower and Pantlind/Amway in Campau Square, with the clock tower building across Pearl St. from the Pantlind still in place.
