Scope and Contents

“Elm trees on Barclay Ave., old landmark of Grand Rapids. This is near the down town business district and public opinion rose in arms to prevent the removal of these trees from the street some years ago when the city authorities started to remove them. James M. Nelson of Nelson & Matter live in the house on the NE corner. Father of Sarah who painted the picture of GR in 1956.” Image shows two (or three) trees in the center of the street on an offset meridian. Hill view, with side walks and homes on either side of the street. Two autos near the top of the hill, ca. 1910. Woman seated on a porch at right, man at top of the hill left.
