Abstract William Alden Smith (1859-1932) was a U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator from the state of Michigan. He was also a lawyer and businessman active in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Smith is known for being in charge of the United State's investigation into the sinking of the Titanic.
